MOD MEANS BUSINESS
Local businesses saw the benefits of the Royal National Mod taking place in Falkirk last month as an estimated £1.5m was injected into the local economy. Around 10,000 visitors visited the area for the eight day long festival of Gaelic culture and music from across the globe eager to discover what the event and area had to offer. Many local enterprises saw the benefits or being associated with such a high profile festival and were soon signed up in sponsorship and support deals that were available. Many pubs, clubs and hotels were fully booked and retailers saw a visible rise in their footfall across the town centre. Cllr Angus MacDonald who chairs the local organising committee said: ‘We were overwhelmed by the support local businesses gave to the event and I would like to offer my thanks to everyone involved. ‘Many business owners saw great opportunities that large scale events such as the Mod can make to their operations. ‘It didn’t matter if they were a small single trader or a huge multi-national company, they all used the event to help them to consolidate their businesses during what are difficult financial times globally. ‘The feedback we received from local businesses is that they enjoyed this event, it bolstered their finances and they are eager to see more of similar events in the Falkirk area.’ While some more obvious mementoes were produced to mark the occasion, local manufacturers came up with a few ideas of their own that were a bit different including commemorative beer, pottery and even Empire biscuits!
