LYLE KENNEDY WINS GOLD

THE 2008 Mod Gold Medallist is Lyle Kennedy from Bonnybridge, pictured above with his mesdal at the Falkirk Wheel.
He picked up the top award in the 105th event shortly before noon today (Thursday) following the competition in Falkirk Town Hall.

Lyle (43), a member of Stirling Gaelic Choir, is the first male singer from the area ever to win the coveted prize.

However, it has been won before by a trio of females: Lorna MacDougall of Bainsford at Oban in 1978; Anne Sinclair of Grangemouth at Stornoway in 1979; and Sheena Walker of Camelon at Motherwell in 1983.

Lyle, a project engineer with a Dunfermline firm, is married to Lindsay (35). The couple, who live in Bonnymuir Crescent, have two daughters, Riona (4) and eight-month-old Mairi.

The women's Gold Medal was won by Kerrie Finlay (26) of Inverness.
