PROVOST OF FALKIRK AWARD PRESENTED AT OBAN MOD

Provost of Falkirk Pat Reid recently attended the Royal National Mod in Oban to present the Provost of Falkirk Award to a deserving youngster who has made a contribution to the Gaelic language over the past year. Provost Reid was joined by Councillor Angus MacDonald, Convener of last year's successful Royal National Mod which was held in Falkirk.
The creation of the Provost of Falkirk Award was announced by Provost Pat Reid at the Falkirk Mod last year and will be an annual award presented to a youngster who has made a significant contribution to Gaelic over the year. The winner of this year's award was Katy McAdam from Comunn Gàidhealach Mhuille on the Isle of Mull. Provost Reid said: "I was delighted to attend this year's Mod in Oban and present the first ever Provost of Falkirk Award to Katy McAdam. She is a worthy winner and we look forward to future recipients making a significant contribution towards the future of Gaelic in coming years." Councillor Angus MacDonald, Convener of last year's Mod in Falkirk said: "It is important that we retain the links we built up with the Gaelic community in the run up to the Royal National Mod in Falkirk last year, and the Provost of Falkirk Award allows us to do that. I was struck by the praise we received at this year's Mod in Oban for the success of the Falkirk Mod, with many Mod goers asking if it would be returning to Falkirk. We are certainly not ruling out a future bid to bring the Mod back to Falkirk, as it proved to be both a cultural and economic success, significantly increasing local interest in traditional culture and boosting the economy by at least £1.5 million. That is the kind of festival that we must continue to attract to Falkirk district."
