Traditional Music Gets Tiny Toes Tapping

Traditional music is top of the pops at the moment with a wide range of opportunities available across the Falkirk Council area.

More than 90 pupils are currently involved in the Falkirk Traditional Music Project, a Falkirk Youth Pipe Band and two Falkirk Schools Traditional Bands have been set up.

Now pupils in their early years will be all ears at a traditional music concert aimed at nursery and primary school pupils. And with the Royal National Mod coming to town later on this year the concerts will provide pupils with an early introduction to the Gaelic language, culture and music.

Some of the best young traditional musicians in the country will play at the one day event in Camelon Education Centre on Thursday 21 February 2008.

The band for the day features Adam Sutherland on the fiddle, Michael Bryan on guitar, John Somerville on accordion and Gaelic singer Rachel Newton.

It’s hoped the free concerts will provide an insight into the exciting world of traditional music and what it’s like to perform Scotland’s native music.
