BIG IN FALKIRK IS BACK

Big in Falkirk, Scotland's National Street Arts Festival is back for its 9th year on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th May 2008

Since its inception in 2000, this award-winning weekend extravaganza has become one of Scotland’s largest free cultural events, attracting over 100,000 people. Located in Falkirk’s stunning 180-acre Callendar Park, the cutting-edge entertainment features a wide variety of spectacular outdoor theatre, pyrotechnic displays, art, comedy and big name music acts alongside activities for all ages. A significant international event, Big in Falkirk has helped to raise the cultural profile of the area and along with the HELIX Project, will further develop Falkirk as an engine for the development of street and public arts in Scotland.

Big in Falkirk showcases the finest, most original outdoor contemporary theatre, whilst also working closely with the best artists in their field and nurturing creativity. 2007’s Festival saw two major large-scale productions: Before the Wolf, a new commission from award-winning composed Jim Sutherland featuring acclaimed musicians from throughout Europe perform as La Banda Europa and the UK Premiere of France’s La Compagnie Jo Bithume’s multimedia epic Victor Frankenstein, performed all around the audience.

2008 will see major new commissions from British street theatre and multimedia companies. It will feature work by some of the most exciting British performers and international companies from Europe and Asia. The Festival will see the further development of the Environmental Art Project with international artists creating works inspired by the Festival Site.

Alongside this, Big in Falkirk presents some of the most popular names in music across the genres having previously welcomed The Human League, Heaven 17, Deacon Blue, Snow Patrol, The Stranglers and Bob Geldof. The Festival has a tradition of presenting acts just before they hit the big time, with Amy Macdonald, McFly, Orson and Sandi Thom all celebrating chart success immediately after they appearance at Big in Falkirk.

Big in Falkirk 2008 promises to be the biggest celebration yet. The full programme will be released this month.
