Star-studded Line-ups for Falkirk Mod 2008

                 Star-studded Line-ups for Falkirk Mod 2008:

As part of Falkirk Mod 2008 preparations, the local Mod Committee  are delighted to announce that they will be presenting two fabulous concerts in the lead up to the Royal National Mod in October.

The first concert will feature the Celtic ‘supergroup’ Capercaillie at FTH(Falkirk Town Hall) on Saturday 16th August at 8pm . Capercaillie are credited with being at the forefront of the renaissance in folk/roots music over the last 20 years, Scotland’s finest Celtic band returned this year with a brand new studio album “Roses and Tears”.
Their appearances in concert halls and festivals in over 30 countries worldwide along with platinum discs and critics awards are testament to the band’s consistently popular live shows – an intoxicating blend of traditional Gaelic songs and instrumentals with a contemporary attitude featuring the sublime vocals of Karen Matheson, this is a rare opportunity to see one of folk music’s top acts in full flight.

Special guests for the evening are Breabach, quickly emerging as one of the most popular bands on the Scottish music scene today.

Gaelic supremo Donnie Munro and his band are lined up to perform at FTH on Saturday 13th September at 8pm. Donnie Munro and Runrig became one of Scotland's most popular acts, outselling all other artists in Scotland in album sales and performing now legendary concerts at Stirling Castle and at Loch Lomond.
Donnie now enjoys a successful solo career, with his album ,'Heart of America' winning Album of the Year in the Scottish Trad Music Awards 2006. He continues to work as the Director of Development at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Scotland’s National Centre for the Gaelic Language and Culture on Skye and has just completed a series of highly acclaimed live shows titled An Turas-the journey, with a 40 piece ensemble. He has also released this as a live album, recorded at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow during Celtic Connections 2008.

Catriona Watt and her band are special guests for this concert. Catriona was the  2007 BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year and the Mod Committee is delighted to welcome her to Falkirk.

The Royal National Mod comes to Falkirk for the first time in its history with an anticipated 10,000 visitors coming to the area. The Mod will take place between 10th-18thOctober 2008 and celebrates Gaelic language and culture through music song and poetry.

Convener of the local Mod committee Cllr Angus MacDonald said; “These two star-studded concerts are certain to raise awareness of the Mod coming to Falkirk. There is already a great buzz in and around Falkirk with regards to the Mod and the interest that will be generated through these two concerts will help raise the profile of the Mod coming to Falkirk further. The local Mod 08 committee in conjunction with Falkirk Council and An Comunn Gaidhealach are working hard to make sure htta the Falkirk Mod 2008 is one of the best Mods ever. We want to make sure Scotland's largest Gaelic festival is experienced and enjoyed by visitors and locals alike."
