More people are living in the Falkirk Council area than ever before according to figures published recently with the population estimated at 150,720 in 2007 (an increase of 1040 from 2006). The area's population grew at a rate of 0.7%, greater than the Scottish average of 0.5%, with the highest number of births being recorded in the area since the early 1990s (1834).
The increase has been attributed to migration from other parts of Scotland and the UK with almost 4500 people moving to the area in 2006/07.
Cllr Linda Gow, leader of Falkirk Council said: ‘The figures are extremely encouraging and demonstrates that Falkirk is seen as a place to work, live and enjoy.
‘We have a confidence in our area and others are recognising this by choosing to locate here.
‘There are many economic benefits for the whole area from the increasing population as well as the increase in skills and diversity.
‘We will continue to plan our services to ensure that the increasing demands can be met.'
